After qualifying as a chartered accountant, Marie joined Arthur Andersen’s tax division in Dublin, then established a specialised tax consultancy practice in 1988 and formed Barr Pomeroy with Michael Pomeroy in 1989. She was a Council member of Chartered Accountants Ireland from 1998 to 2005, was chairman of the CCAB-I Taxation Committee from 1999 to 2008 and was the chairman of the Tax Administration Liaison Committee (TALC) in 2003 and 2007.
Marie has lectured extensively for Chartered Accountants Ireland and other professional bodies on taxation matters and has written various articles for Accountancy Ireland. She is one of five “people of standing” appointed by the Minister for Finance under the EU Arbitration Convention.

Michael qualified as a chartered accountant with Arthur Andersen, Dublin, audit division and established his own practice in 1982 specialising in audit and company restructuring services. He formed Barr Pomeroy with Marie Barr in 1989.
Michael has extensive experience in auditing small and medium sized entities and has over twenty years experience in receiverships, insolvency, forensic accounting and litigation support assignments.

Shaw, also a chartered accountant, joined the practice under training contract in 2001, was admitted as an Associate of Chartered Accountants Ireland in 2005, was admitted as a partner to Barr Pomeroy, Chartered Accountants in May 2008 and qualified as a Chartered Tax Adviser with the Irish Taxation Institute in 2008. Over the past eight years he has gained significant experience in accounting and auditing issues, liquidations, due diligence assignments and company law compliance.
He was awarded the Diploma in Forensic Accounting by Chartered Accountants Ireland in 2009. This further enables him to provide helpful and practical advice and information to individuals going through marital separations and companies needing forensic accounting expertise.
